About Us

Caribe has been delighting audiences all over the Southland since 2001. They will enhance any event with a wide array of styles, including reggae, soca, calypso, and even some of your favorite pop tunes!

A Caribbean Band for all occasions, Caribe can tailor an experience to suit your needs.

For a formal cocktail hour, elegant dinner or casual backyard party, Caribe will create a soothing ambiance for you and your guests. Our most popular and versatile ensemble, the trio, is made up of steel drum, guitar and percussion. For larger events, you might prefer the lively sounds of a 4, 5 or 6 piece band complete with up to three steel drummers, or perhaps your event requires simply a solo steel drummer. Whatever the event, Caribe is the solution.

Leader and founder of Caribe, Angie Tabor began playing tenor steel drum at CSU, Long Beach while earning a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance. Her passion for the sound of the steel drum and the music of the Caribbean was ignited immediately. She carried this inspiration to the University of Northern Colorado where she went on to earn a Master of Music in Percussion Performance. While in Colorado, she performed regularly with the only professional steel drum band in Denver (at the time), Pan Jumbies. With this group, she not only played tenor pan, but also began learning triple guitar pans and double second pans. Soon after returning home to Southern California, Angie formed Caribe.

Recently, Angie purchased a wonderful set of double second pans made by Dave Beery at Smarty Pans Music. She is excited to be learning a new steel drum instrument!

In addition to maintaining a busy performing schedule on steel drums, Angie performs regularly on drum set and other percussion instruments with a variety of ensembles that have taken her across the US and the globe. She also maintains a studio of private students.

Percussionist Erik Leckrone has performed with a wide variety of ensembles and projects throughout the United States and abroad. Originally from Middleton, WI, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance from Northern Illinois University and his Masters degree in Percussion Performance from California State University, Long Beach. Along with freelancing in the Los Angeles area, Erik is currently percussion instructor at Fullerton College and staff accompanist for the dance programs at Chapman Univ. and the Univ. of California, at Irvine.

Some of Caribe’s guest musicians have included: Terry Carter, guitar; Axel Clarke, steel drums & percussion; Sam Montooth, bass; Danny Gordon, percussion; Stephen Musselman, guitar; Bill Dickson, bass; Amanda Duncan, percussion; Nicole Falzone, percussion.
